Rules for Rec Soccer

Substitutions:

  • Allowed anytime the ball is out of play, with referee approval.

Kick-offs:

  • Start of the game and after goals.
  • The ball can go in any direction.

Throw-ins:

  • Used when the ball goes out over the sideline.
  • Two feet on the ground, both hands on the ball, thrown from behind the head.
  • U6 may redo throw-ins for learning.

Goal Kicks:

  • Taken when the attacking team kicks the ball over the goal line.
  • U6–U12: Kicked from anywhere near the goal area.
  • Opponents must retreat to midfield.

Corner Kicks:

  • Awarded when the defending team kicks the ball over their own goal line.
  • Taken from the corner of the field.

Fouls & Free Kicks:

  • No slide tackling allowed.
  • Kicks to be indirect for U6–U12 (ball must touch another player before scoring).
  • Direct and indirect kicks allowed at U14

Offside Rule:

  • No offside for U6-U8
  • Offside enforced at U10 and U12

Handballs:

  • Deliberate handballs result in a free kick for the other team.
  • Incidental contact is typically not called at younger ages.

Ties:

  • Games may end in a tie. No overtime for recreational play.
